Galapagos Airport Baltra

In : Galapagos

One of two airports on Galapagos Islands, Baltra airport originally served as a US military airbase during the W W II aimed to protect the Panama Canal.
After the War the facilities have been changed into an Ecuadorian military base, that later enabled some facilities for the civil traffic.
The Baltra island itself is a tiny, almost unhabitated place, and the bus takes the tourists from the plane to the port on Itabaca Channel, where they board booked tour boats or the ferry to Santa Cruz. At the other side of the channel the CITTEG bus takes the people to Puerto Ayora. The drive across the island takes approximately one hour.

At present there is one flight from Ecuador by TAME and one by AeroGal.

TAME
The flight starts from Quito (UIO) with landing at Guayaquil (GYE) and ends at Baltra(GPS).
