The day of Independence in Ecuador is celebrated on August 10, to commemorate the day when the group of local patriots from la Junta Soberana de Quito ( formed the day before )
started the Creole revolt against the president Ruiz de Castilla and established ‘Junta de Gobierno’ with Juan Pio Montufar as the president.
That day of year 1809 referred as ‘Primer grito de independencia’ marks the beginning of Ecuadorian movement for independence.

On October 9, 1820, the port-city of Guayaquil proclaimed its independence from Spain, the leaders of the movement set the goverment and formed the military forces
to protect the sovereignity, which finally was secured by the defeat of the Royalist forces loyal to Spain at the Battle of Pichincha ( a volcano next to Quito ) on 24 May 1822.
On August 10, 1922 Quito with its territory called ‘Real Audiencia de Quito’ has been incorporated into the Republic of Gran Colombia of Simon Boliviar , after almost three hundred years of Spanish colonization; then finally in 1830 became the independent republic with Juan José Flores as its first president.
